The Tourism and Handicap Label

Mauguio Carnon Tourist Office was awarded the Tourism and Handicap label in 2006 for motor, visual and mental handicaps and in 2007 for hearing handicaps.

The Tourism and Handicap label was created in 2001 to promote reliable, standardised and objective information for the handicapped with regards to accessibility to tourist sites and facilities, with specific requirements for the four major types of handicap (motor, visual, hearing and mental). The identification of an adapted tourist offer has helped the development of tourist products and services which are genuinely open to all and offer optimal autonomy to each individual.

Our developments

- For motor handicaps:

Our premises are adapted to wheelchair access and have sliding doors.

Visitors can move around freely and easily access the Tourist Office and also all the administrative services.

There is an adapted counter for optimal contact between our staff and clients.

Leaflet presentation counters are also adapted to enable full access to cultural and tourist information.

A document has been published presenting the tourist offer adapted to the handicapped.

Poster displays and information displays are visible from the exterior and accessible to persons in wheelchairs.

- For the visually handicapped:

A guide strip on the floor facilitates access from the entry of the building to the reception counter and throughout the administrative building (postal service, town hall, reception rooms...).

A document has been published presenting the tourist offer adapted to the handicapped. MP3 documentation and a brail brochure are available at reception. A loudspeaker system has been designed to guide persons with hearing aids from the entrance to the building.

- For the hard of hearing:

An induction loop service is available to help the hard of hearing or those with hearing aids listen to information given by the reception personnel.

Logos indicating the presence of the induction loop facilities are displayed on the pillars in the middle of the Tourist Office.

- For the mentally handicapped:

A document presenting the offer adapted to the handicapped is available at the Tourist Office.

Our beaches

Several beach zones on the resort are equipped with pathways to enable access to the water. Tiralos (equipment to assist with getting into the water) are available free of charge (at the Carnon Centre and Petit Travers beach surveillance huts), the Carnon Centre beach is also equipped for the visually handicapped with an ‘Audioplage’ service during the summer season to enable the visually handicapped to go into the water in full autonomy and bathe in security.

The labelling procedure is open to all tourism professionals:
