Mauguio-Carnon is a mosaic of zones which are protected with a view to preserving a rich but fragile natural heritage.
The Etang de l’Or lagoon is a Natura 2000 site, as are the dunes and lagoons that surround Mauguio-Carnon. The fauna and flora are sensitive to human activity and pollution. This is why Mauguio-Carnon has undertaken, through its Agenda 21, to find solutions which enable cohabitation between tourism and nature.
Nature trails and planned walking routes along the coastal areas, organised by the Carnon Tourist Office and SYMBO (Management Syndicate for the Bassin de l’Or) are aimed at enabling visitors to explore this natural diversity while informing them of the need to take steps to preserve it for the future.
This proactive policy towards sustainable tourism is supported by public bodies such as the Conservatoire du Littoral. Efforts are pooled to ensure that Mauguio-Carnon remains a natural, protected and respected area.
If you wish to take part in these initiatives or find out more about the programme of actions, we invite you to contact the different associations involved in the field: Graine Languedoc-Roussillon, Les conservatoires des espaces naturels LR, Le syndicat mixte du bassin de l’OR (SYMBO), The LABELBLEU association etc… whose activities are aimed at promoting the environment and environmental awareness for all, throughout the Languedoc Roussillon.
