Cultural heritage

Mauguio Carnon’s rich cultural heritage represents an exceptional tourist attraction.

Mauguio harbours a historic heritage steeped in Medieval wealth and Spanish & Camargue tradition. Walking tours organised by the Mauguio-Carnon cultural service offer a fascinating insight into its entrancing history.

The Rhone Canal, previously called the Lagoons Canal, is part of this cultural heritage.

Work on the canal started in the 18th century under the direction of Paul Riquet, it is the extension of the Canal du Midi, crossing the Languedoc and the Petite Camargue.

At Carnon, the canal borders the commune of Mauguio alongside the Etang d’Or lagoon, offering a landscape surrounded by water and an astonishing perspective of the coastal lagoons.

Take advantage of rowing trips and cruises along the canal, per half day or for several days, to explore the exceptional cultural wealth and heritage of Mauguio-Carnon and its environment.
